I've tried taking an image and resizing it to those dimensions, and naming the jpg exactly as the vpk, but it just doesn't work. All of the Workshop mods come with their own jpg and they're all the same dimension, 640x360. How can I get preview images to work in the in-game Addons menu in Left 4 Dead 2? I'd love to be able to actually see the thumbnail previews of all my mods while in the Addons menu but cannot figure out how to do it, if it's even possible.
This is due to the fact that manually-installed vpk's do not come with a jpg preview image, at least any that I've seen so far. You can see the thumbnail previews for your Workshop mods in the in-game Addons menu, but you cannot see any thumbnail previews for your manually installed vpk's. However, there is a minor but irritating issue. Look for the entry labeled Left 4 Dead 2 - Add-on Support click and install it. Just go into steam and open up the Tools tab. PLAYERS: If you are not looking to design but play custom campaigns all you need to do is install the add-on support package. It appears that you can indeed have your 50 Workshop mods and, in addition, any vpk's that you manually install. We are releasing the Left 4 Dead 2 Authoring Tools and Left 4 Dead 2 Add-on Support today.
