Their hot tempers, biting quips, and love that transcended their arguments made them an endearingly offbeat couple. One of the best things about DC in the 70s was the relationship between Oliver Queen and Dinah Lance. Gerry Conway, Mike Netzer and Terry Austin pit Green Arrow against a savage man-bear. In this issue, the Green Arrow story serves as the set-up for the Black Canary one. The Martian Manhunter would next be seen, a few years down the road, in the pages of Justice League of America. But the attack almost sets off a device that would destroy the entire planet. The air proves toxic to any Martian who enters it.
The city turns out to have its own defenses. He is leading the troops against a helpless, forgotten city in order to boost his own power. The real killer os R’es Eda, the one who sent the Superman bomb, has framed J’onn for the murder.
This leads them all the way back to New Mars, where J’onn finds his people preparing for war. Superman and Batman join J’onn as they follow the trail of the ship it came from. The story picks up the cliffhanger, as the villain sends a robot Superman-bomb to the spaceship of Hawkman and Hawkgirl, where the Martian Manhunter is.
